About

“An impressive new voice on the jazz scene” – Joseph Lang, Jersey Jazz

Depending on the night of the week, you may hear vocalist Danielle Reich performing French chanson, Gypsy Jazz, Great American Songbook standards, New Orleans Hot Club, Western Swing, jazz-interpreted pop, or even avant-garde compositions. Danielle got her start with classical voice training, and after completing an opera degree in Florida, she began singing professionally in Texas with the Houston Grand Opera chorus. At the same time she began exploring jazz under the tutelage of Houston pianist, composer, and educator Joe Locascio.

“A musical approach as perfectly balanced and graceful as her classically-informed and jazz-honed mezzo voice” – C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz

Ten years later, Danielle was hosting a standing-room-only jazz jam in the Heights of Houston, founded with Houston guitarist Erin Wright and bassist Thomas Helton. From orchestras to a first time out at an intimate jazz jam, Danielle has enjoyed the support of many outstanding musicians as she has developed her organic interpretive style, expanded her repertoire, and engaged in an array of small groups that blur musical boundaries.

“Rejuvenates the sensual grooves of nocturnal blues and the caressive strokes of cabaret swing” – Susan Frances, Yahoo Network

Danielle currently performs in Texas with Swing Rendezvous (Houston, jazz manouche), Boomtown Brass Band (Houston, New Orleans Hot Club), Bluebonnet Blossoms (Houston, vocal harmony), Lady Be Good (Austin, Western Swing), and her own trio. She also performs in Washington with Nuages (Bellingham) and Swing Provence (Seattle). Danielle has been a featured performer at the Manouche NW Concert Series, the Houston Composers Salon, and the Austin Jazz Festival. Danielle is also currently performing with avant-garde composer/bassist Thomas Helton‘s Relative Dissonance improvising ensemble, as well as performing new works for musicians and dancers with the Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble in Houston and in New York.

“Pure aural pleasure” – Dick Metcalf, Zzaj Productions

Danielle has been a featured performer at the Trinity Jazz Festival (Houston), the Manouche N.W. Concert Series (Bellingham, WA), the Austin Jazz Festival, and she looks forward to performing as a part of LuluFest (Austin) in 2020.
